In order to understand others, it is necessary to understand yourself.
Empathy is the ability to understand and connect with others, to put yourself in their shoes.
Compassion also includes this, however it implies acceptance and a deep respect to help the other person to feel free of suffering.
These feelings unify and transform us.
If we want to develope this kind of communication, we have to go beyond words and understand what the other person feels and what he or she needs, based on what he or she intends to express.
By empathizing with the other person’s feelings or emotions, we will feel more confident and will be able to maintain a healthy bond of communication.
We really help someone, when we focus on being present by listening and paying attention (without having our personal story or opinion in mind).
Being willing to listen is not only about activating your ears, you have to be available for that person.
Listening is about the entire body: the other person’s gaze, body language, way of breathing, etc.
To relate with and from the heart is one of our best and truest tools when it comes to sharing, accompanying or helping in any healing process.
